Goodbye evernote

Why I Left Evernote?
Evernote has been my go-to note-taking app for more than a decade. I appreciated its robust features, cross-platform compatibility, and the ability to store everything from simple text notes to PDFs and images. However, over time, I found myself grappling with a few persistent issues.

  • Pricing. As Evernote expanded its features, the cost also increased. The free version became increasingly limited, and the premium version seemed overpriced for the value it offered.
  • The app’s performance started to decline. It became slower, and the search function, once a strength of Evernote, became less efficient.
  • Lack of significant updates or improvements to the platform. While other apps were evolving rapidly, Evernote seemed to stagnate.

Switching to Apple Notes
Apple Notes, on the other hand, offered a refreshing change. While it might not be as feature-rich as Evernote, it excelled in areas that mattered most to me.

  • Apple Notes is free and comes pre-installed on all Apple devices. This made it a cost-effective solution for my note-taking needs.
  • The app’s performance is smooth and fast. The search function is quick and accurate, making it easy to locate notes.
  • Apple Notes seamlessly integrates with the Apple ecosystem which i’m a huge fan off. This means that whether I am on my iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, I can access and edit my notes effortlessly.
  • Apple continues to update and improve Notes, adding features like password protection, sketching tools, and document scanning.

The Move
The transition from Evernote to Apple Notes was surprisingly straightforward. Apple Notes allows importing notes from Evernote by exporting Evernote notes as .enex files and then importing these files into Apple Notes.

I found that my notes, including text, images, and attachments, were all accurately transferred. However, complex notes with tables and special formatting required some manual adjustment. Most work was deleting very old notes and removing redundant tags. After a few hours my notes were moved into notes.

Conclusion
Leaving Evernote after 14 years was not an easy decision, but the transition to Apple Notes has been a positive one. The simplicity, speed, and seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem have made my note-taking experience more efficient and enjoyable. Though I will always appreciate Evernote for its services, I am looking forward to my journey with Apple Notes.

Remember, the best note-taking app is the one that suits your needs and preferences. So, whether you’re an Evernote user contemplating a switch or someone looking for a new note-taking tool, I hope my experience can help guide your decision.
